Willie Pooch
Inducted 2018

Willie Pooch was one of the defining voices of Columbus blues. A magnetic singer, songwriter, and bandleader, he brought the authority of the Mississippi blues tradition to Central Ohio and became a mentor and musical touchstone for generations of local performers.
Over a long career, Pooch fronted his own groups, worked with the Dave Workman Blues Band, and shared stages with many of the city’s finest musicians. His performances combined humor, soul, hard-earned wisdom, and an unmistakable vocal presence. Just as important, he welcomed younger players into the music and helped establish the standards of musicianship and showmanship that shaped the Columbus scene. His influence can be heard in the artists he encouraged and in the community that continues to honor his name.
